Hello dear readers.
We were originally going to publish our “most anticipated movies of 2025” newsletter this week, but that seems small compared to what’s happening in my home city of Los Angeles. I live right on the Pasadena/Altadena border so it’s been a harrowing time to say the least. I have friends and neighbors who have lost everything. Half of the town I spend so much time in and love is gone. The fires continue to burn. It’s truly devastating.
I feel helpless in a lot of ways, but it’s that feeling that is spurring me to act. Yesterday, I raked a neighbors yard that was full of debris and ash from the windstorm. Along with another neighbor, I moved a down tree from in front of an elderly neighbor’s driveway so she could leave and get supplies because the city was overwhelmed and couldn’t get to her house to clear it for her. I’m planning to drop of clothes at a donation center later today/tomorrow and am looking for the best ways to directly help those in my neighborhood.
I am not telling you these things for validation. I’m telling you these things because in the face of something so overwhelmingly large, it’s the small things that can make a difference. I have been at work all week, but I’ve felt completely detached and useless. Only when I was doing things like this did I feel remotely useful.
I don’t have a large platform, but over 200 of you are subscribed to this newsletter, so I wanted to use it for good and come to you with a plea to give what you can, whether it’s money, resources, or time.
It can feel overwhelming when looking where to help, so I wanted to share this google doc that's a great resource. It's a huge list of all the organizations, mutual aid, and direct response that have mobilized across the city. It's broken down by location (including address), what donations they're accepting, what they're providing for anyone displaced, their hours (if applicable) and if they need volunteers. A lot of these are mutual aid and direct relief organizations which are great places to give your resources to, as they'll get to those who need it quickly.
Another one that isn't listed here is Baby2Baby LA which is providing supplies to families with young children. I donated to them earlier today, they’re a great resource.
You can donate to them at: https://donate.baby2baby.org/give/648067
You can find the Google Doc here
If you live in LA, stay safe. I am thinking of you and holding your close. If you need anything I can provide you with, please let me know!
Be well, everyone.
Saul

lol an earlier version of this email said I was telling you these things for validation, when it should have read "I am NOT telling you these things for validation." I regret the error
You've always had the huge heart. Proud Dad.
